In her own NSFW way, Amy Schumer just gave the MOST empowering speech

Amy Schumer. Seriously, what a BADASS. We at HG have been in love with her forever, but she just keeps on proving her awesomeness every single time she steps in front of a camera or microphone.

At the 12th annual Glamour Women of the Year awards in London on Tuesday, the 34-year-old comedian won the Trailblazer Of The Year award. And we’re not shocked, because Amy is certainly a trailblazer, which she displayed loud and proud during her acceptance speech. The speech is exceptional but WARNING: If you’re at work, bookmark it for later, because it’s totally, almost 100% NSFW.

Her remarks may have been risque but, hey, that’s Amy: She tells it like it is, is completely hilarious, and gives women a whole lotta comfort and strength while doing it. Amy hit on many topics in her speech, including the fact that at 160 pounds (a totally normal weight, BTW, contrary to what magazines covers might say) she’s able to . . . erm, we’ll say, snag a guy. As the crowd roared with laughter, she covered her awkward childhood years, describing (in the best way ever) what it was like to hit puberty early while losing her two front teeth late.

Amy also discussed some super important feminist issues, such as how women in comedy are generally treated during photo shoots (which, as you can imagine, was extra NSFW. . . we will say it involved her long glass award, though). And she took some time to give props to the magazine honoring her: “Glamour — they’re the first magazine that was like, ‘smile . . . just be you,” she told the audience.

She also explained that many women’s magazines aren’t exactly appreciative of women and make them feel guilty for, well, having lady parts. We’ll just leave that bit for you to watch on your own, actually. But it was seriously powerful.

In between the high stakes hilarity she was actually incredibly real. “No, I’m not gonna apologize for who I am,” Amy told the cheering audience. “I’m gonna actually love the skin that I’m in and not be, like, striving for some other version of myself.” We LOVE Amy’s awesome lady-power speech, and we love that’s she’s not afraid to raise a few eyebrows to bring some hilarious-yet-true points home.

Off the podium, Amy also dropped some truths in her red carpet interview. When she was asked to complete the sentence, “The best thing about being a woman is . . .” she responded, “Our strength.” YES. “I think it’s an exciting time to be a woman,” she continued. “There’s that Gloria Steinem quote, ‘We became the men we wanted to marry.’ But I think I’m realizing that’s not true. I think women are just badasses, and owning it more.” Of course, when she was asked directly afterwards what advice she’d give to her 12-year-old self, she said, “To get vaccinated for HPV.” Oh, Amy.

Check out the whole speech below. We guarantee it will crack you up while making you feel proud to be a woman! But please, don’t watch without headphones while your boss is around. We don’t want to get you fired!
