Amy Schumer just made her makeup artist instantly famous
The brilliant Amy Schumer has already made it known that while girls don’t need makeup, society expects women to look a certain way (“Think of a clown and then work your way back!”) but at last night’s Emmy Awards, the comedienne was once again pitch-perfect with her message.
Schumer just won her first Emmy for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series for her Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer. And while she managed to thank a variety of people (“suits,” writers, producers, and her sister, for starters), she even thanked her glam squad, who “gave me sort of a smokey eye” for the big night. “I really love it!” she said. And in that instant, she catapulted Andréa Tiller to fame.
Tiller realized Schumer gave her a shout out through social media. “I was on my way back to the hotel from the venue, and I started receiving a ton of notifications with the smoky-eye statement,” she told Refinery29. “I first laughed to myself, because I know Amy, and it was such a random funny comment. What an unexpected sweet thing she said.”
Tiller has a long relationship with Schumer (remember when she was Princess Leia on the cover of GQ? Tiller was behind the makeup!) and the two wanted to play off Schumer’s deep teal-colored Zac Posen dress, according to Elle.
“Along with her glamorous dress and edgy hairstyle, we wanted the makeup to make a sexy, glam statement,” Tiller told the magazine.
And heat was also a consideration – both the burning heat of L.A., where the Emmys were held, and the unforgiving warmth of the stage lights, so everything possible was long-wear or waterproof.
The key, Tiller tells R29, is going for an unexpected pop of color under the eye. She did it with a bright turquoise liner, making the smokey eye brighter and – like Schumer herself – more playful.
We’ll just say, Amy wasn’t the only big winner last night.
