In a candid new Instagram post, Amy Schumer revealed she has Lyme disease and has “maybe had it for years.” She opened up about how she’s treating the disease and reassured followers that she “feel[s] good.” Still, the comedian and actor is hoping that other people who live with Lyme disease can send her some advice.
Yesterday, September 8th, she wrote in a caption about her diagnosis, alongside a photo of baby Amy Schumer with her “first ever fishing pole.”
Anyone get LYME this summer? I got it and I’m on doxycycline. I have maybe had it for years, Schumer wrote.
Doxycycline is an antibiotic that, among many other things, is used to treat “early Lyme disease,” according to the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. Because she’s on antibiotics, and because of her Lyme diagnosis overall, Schumer asked her followers for advice.
“Any advice? Can you have a glass of wine or 2 on it? I know to stay out of the sun,” she wrote. She also noted other ways she is treating the disease: “I’m also taking these herbs from cape cod called lyme-2.”
If you’re able to send her advice, she asks fans and followers to, “Please comment or text me on my number in my bio.” That number is +1 (917) 970-9333.
“I also want to say that I feel good and am excited to get rid of it,” she wrote to end her Instagram post.
Lyme disease is a tick-bourne illness (which is why Schumer alludes to people contracting it in the summer months), “transmitted by the bite of an infected black-legged tick, commonly known as a deer tick,” according to the Mayo Clinic. The CDC lists symptoms of untreated Lyme disease as, “Fever, chills, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint aches, and swollen lymph nodes,” as well as a Erythema migrans rash.
Schumer isn’t the only celeb to open up about being diagnosed with Lyme. Justin Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Avril Lavigne, among others, currently have or had the disease.
We hope Schumer gets the help she needs, so if you have any advice for Amy about her Lyme disease treatment, absolutely reach out to her!
