Time to freak out: Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are writing a screenplay together

Commence fangirl freakout: Our favorite humans Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer are officially writing a screenplay together.

On Wednesday, Lawrence sat down for an interview with The New York Times to discuss the highly-anticipated final installment of The Hunger Games franchise. The conversation gradually turned to other subjects — and then, the movie gods smiled down on us: Lawrence spilled the beans that she’s co-writing (and plans to co-star in) a film with her new bestie, Schumer.

“We play sisters,” Lawrence told The New York Times. “We’re almost done writing. It just flowed out of us. We’ve got about 100 pages right now.”

We can only imagine the comedic brilliance brewing between the two of them, and we’re already getting some major Amy Poehler/Tina Fey vibes from the whole thing. This will be Lawrence’s first foray into screenwriting, but surely not her last. Plus, she’s in great company: From Inside Amy Schumer to Trainwreck, it’s no secret Schumer is an incredibly talented comedic writer. We couldn’t think of a more exciting collaboration.

While Lawrence and Schumer only became acquainted a couple months ago, it’s obvious that the sparks flew instantly. (Have you seen their vacation pictures? Because there are few things as fangirl-worthy as J. Law and Schumer riding a jet ski together.) And apparently, that applies just as much to work as it does to their friendship.

“Amy and I were creatively made for each other. We have different flavors. It’s been the most fun experience of my life,” Lawrence told the NYT. “We start the day off on the phone, laughing. And then we send each other pages. And we crack up.”

“I emailed her after I saw ‘Trainwreck’ and said, ‘I don’t know where to get started. I guess I should just say it: I’m in love with you,’” she continued. “We started emailing, and then emailing turned to texting.”

While Lawrence is easily one of the most talented actors of our generation, she tends to stick to dramas and action flicks rather than full-blown comedies. But her appearances IRL have proven time and again, she’s comedy natural. With one of the most exciting modern comedians by her side, we can’t wait for the amazingness that is sure to come.
