Amy Schumer’s ‘Friday Night Lights’ parody has Connie Britton’s seal of approval

In case you haven’t heard, we at HelloGiggles totally adore Amy Schumer. And one of the things that we really love is her ability to effectively tackle serious topics, like rape culture — which is exactly what she did earlier this year with her parody of “Friday Night Lights.”

The video, which was titled “Football Town Nights” and posted in April of this year, featured Amy in the role of the wine-loving football coach’s wife, an obvious joke about Tami Taylor from Friday Night Lights, who was originally played by Connie Britton. The video also featured Josh Charles as a new football coach, who has introduced a “no raping” policy — only to be met by questions from the players such as “What if she’s drunk and has a slight reputation?” Many viewed the jokes as making light of rape, but Amy explains that the jokes are not at the expense of victims of these heinous crimes, but at the very real (and not OK) attitudes of what constitutes rape.

“You might look at this scene and think we’re making light of something serious, but we really are trying to educate,” Amy said at the Tribeca Film Festival about the sketch. “We know what message we want to send, and then we also think the premise is funny, and then we go to town.”

So was Connie Britton offended by the parody of her character? Last night on Late Night, Seth Myers asked Connie that very question. “I wanted to ask you, this year Amy Schumer did a fantastic sketch using Friday Night Lights. . . did you take that as a tribute?” Seth asked.

“I loved it so much,” Connie gushed. “I mean, I thought the whole skit was just amazing. I personally loved her rendition of Tami Taylor. I was very flattered and honored, particularly of her use of the wine glass.”

It turns out that Connie was the one who introduced Tami’s adoration for wine to the character, so Connie was totally thrilled that Amy noticed. “Tami’s wine glass was very important,” Connie said. “It was my idea, so I felt very seen by Amy.”

Hooray! Is there ever a better feeling than our fave ladies loving each other? We hope that Amy will be seen on a jet-ski with Connie sometime soon. J-Law, you can come too. Watch Seth’s interview with Connie below.
