Amy Schumer has some choice words for media that cover alt-right trolls

Despite their best efforts, Amy Schumer wants alt-right trolls trashing her Netflix special to know that she’s rising above,

It was announced earlier this year that Schumer’s latest comedy special, Amy Schumer: The Leather Specialwould be a Netflix original, and the trailer for the stand up special already had us in hysterics. Indeed, much has been said about the final joke of the special, of which Vulture noted “perfectly encapsulates the comedic point of view that launched her from well-liked club comic to stadium headliner in three years.”

Despite this, the show has been met with negative reviews online, with AOL reporting that the show received more than 900 reviews within just one week of becoming available. Indeed, these negative reviews made the news, with sites sharing some of the more harsh write ups, many of which also picked fun of the comedians looks, too.

It’s since transpired, however, that Amy Schumer’s Netflix special has been targeted by alt-right trolls on Reddit. According to Splitsider, trolls have coordinated to leave negative reviews of the special, something that Schumer has previously experienced following the release of her book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, last year.

Well, Amy Schumer wants the trolls to know that she’s brushing it all off.

In an Instagram post, Schumer shared a screen grab of Splitsider’s article, noting that she was proud of her work. “I am the first female comic who is selling out arenas all over the world and so grateful for that,” she said.

She then took aim at journalists and the media who give alt-right a platform by covering their actions.

"I am embarrassed for the "journalists" who report on trolls activities as if it's news. It's indicative of administration right now. Anyone who reported that "viewers aren't happy" with my special, it would have been cool if you did a moment of research before posting," she said. "The alt right organized trolls attack everything I do. Read the @splitsider article. They organize to get my ratings down. Meeting in sub Reddit rooms. They tried on my book and movies and tv show."

Rather than get bogged down by the haters, Amy Schumer said that she is taking the high road.

"I want to thank them. It makes me feel so powerful and dangerous and brave. It reminds me what I'm saying is effective and bring more interest to my work and their obsession with me keeps me going," she said.

The star then said that she believed that the behavior was indicative of the current administration, noting that she was “alarmed by the people printing their organized trolling as ‘news.’”

“[T]his post has nothing against the trolls. I thank you trolls so much. It fills me with hope and power to see you all furiously posting so as always accuse me of whatever lies you want,” she added. “Call me a whale. Call me a thief and I will continue to rise and fight and lead. I know who I am. I am strong and beautiful and will use my voice my whole time on this earth.”

Finally, she took aim at journalists.

"Do better," she said, "it's embarrassing."

Props to Amy Schumer for remaining positive despite the hate and negativity. It takes guts to stand up for yourself, and it’s super inspiring to see. Keep doing you, ’cause you slay.
