Amy Schumer went back to work just two weeks after giving birth, and she’s already being mommy-shamed
We were already pretty in awe of Amy Schumer, who worked throughout her pregnancy despite her struggles with hyperemesis gravidarum (a pregnancy condition that causes severe nausea, vomiting, and dehydration). But now, we’re even more impressed: Though it’d be completely understandable if Schumer took time off to be with Baby Gene, she officially returned to the comedy stage just two weeks after giving birth. Moms really are superheroes. (As if there was any doubt.)
The new mama made her return to the stand-up stage at the Comedy Cellar in New York City on Monday, May 20th.
She posted a photo on Instagram with the caption: “I’m back!” Commenters almost couldn’t believe that Schumer is already working. Fellow moms praised her for returning to the stage so quickly after giving birth, while others were simply amazed that she had no signs of spit up in her hair or on her dress, because the mom struggle is too real.

Unfortunately, not every commenter was so supportive. Some mommy-shamed her for not giving her body enough rest.
“Jesus, Amy. Let the stitches dissolve first,” one user commented.
“Already???? That’s insane!!! And inhumane,” another wrote. “Contract or not you need to be allowed at least 6 weeks for maternity.”
“Like, I can still smell your placenta…take a damn break ffs,” another wrote.

Schumer welcomed Baby Gene with husband Chris Fischer on May 5th. Since then, she’s shared tons of snaps, from sweet baby pics to hilarious ones of her pumping milk. She’s taking her followers along for the ride with her signature candor and sense of humor, and we love how open she is about all of it. The mommy-shamers needs to let Schumer embrace motherhood the way she wants to, because ultimately only she knows what’s right for her body and happiness.
We hope Amy had a wonderful time back onstage and we’re sure her audience was excited to see her. Again, moms are so amazing.
