Amy Schumer got arrested for protesting Brett Kavanaugh today
On October 5th, a group protesting Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh took over the Hart Senate Office Building on Capitol Hill, where senators were reviewing a new FBI report examining allegations of sexual assault against the nominee. Among those arrested for protesting was none other than comedian Amy Schumer. The Trainwreck actress was detained alongside model Emily Ratajkowski, according to MSNBC. The news network took to Twitter this afternoon with a screengrab of Schumer’s arrest, and Ratajkowski posted confirmation of her own arrest.

Schumer, who is related to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York), joined dozens of protestors to oppose Trump’s Supreme Court pick. In September, allegations of sexual assault by California professor Dr. Christine Blasey Ford against Kavanaugh came to light in The Washington Post. In an interview with the paper, Dr. Blasey accused Kavanaugh of attempted rape when they were in high school. Two more women have since come forward with allegations of assault against Kavanaugh; he has denied all accusations. Both Dr. Blasey and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on September 27th, where Dr. Blasey calmly recounted her harrowing experiencing and Kavanaugh blustered and shouted until he was red in the face.
A clip of Amy Schumer at today’s rally circulated on Twitter soon after she was cuffed. In it, a law enforcement official asks the I Feel Pretty star if she wanted to be arrested. Schumer replies, “Yes.”

Earlier today, reports circulated that Republican senators Susan Collins and Jeff Flake (who both act as swing votes critical to Kavanaugh’s confirmation) called the FBI report against the Supreme Court nominee “thorough.” A final confirmation vote is expected by this weekend.
