Amy Poehler and her celebrity friends are going to make you adopt all these sweet rescue pups

Did you guys know that October is official Adopt a Shelter Dog Month? To get the word out about the awesomeness of rescue pets, Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls has teamed up with the ASPCA (and a whole bunch of amazing celebs) to help wonderful shelter dogs and cats find homes. In the pilot episode of Heavy Petting, comedian John Mulaney voices Bart, an exuberant fluffy white bundle of fun.

“Yo, what’s up, My name’s Bart,” Mulaney explains via voice over while we watch Bart romp around. “I’m looking for a family. But, like, a family who can keep up with me and my active lifestyle? I’m a high energy dog. I’ll say it again, I’m a high energy dog.”

As Bart, Mulaney explains that he’s really into skateboards, eating Cheerios, and playing with his 79 toys (this may be hyperbole on Bart’s part, OR he may actually have 79 toys). He’d also like everyone to know that ideally he’d be adopted by someone with at least SOME X-Games experience.

“I’m a real people canine,” Bart tells us. “I love meeting new people and smelling their breath. When I get nervous I scratch and pant. Maybe you can help me with that. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lifelong forever thing…so like if you’re a former professional skateboarder with great breath and hella Cheerios, hit me up.”

Here’s Mulaney recording Bart’s voice (he brought his own pup Petunia to hang, too cute, too cute):

Mulaney is the Platonic Ideal of adorable as Bart, and he’s just the beginning of a long line of A+ celebs lending their voices to pets in search of a forever home. Upcoming voices include Aubrey Plaza, Ike Barinholtz, Aziz Ansari, Paul Scheer, and Nick Offerman.

This series promises to test just how much cuteness the Internet can handle. And on a totally personal and biased note, I have two rescue dogs and they are literally the greatest and I promise I’m using literally correctly and should you choose to go the rescue dog route this Adopt A Shelter Dog Month I basically guarantee your new pup will make your life infinitely happier and sweeter. Yay rescues!
