Amy Poehler just got her own Netflix comedy, will probably rival “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” in greatness
Amy Poehler is officially returning to television — but behind the camera this time — with a brand-new Netflix series.
Following in BFF Tina Fey’s hilarious footsteps, Poehler’s new untitled comedy series, which she co-created with Orange is the New Black star Natasha Lyonne and Leslye Headland, was recently greenlit by Netflix for an eight-episode first season.
The series stars Lyonne as Nadia, a young woman“on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City.”
This sounds like the most hilarious and relatable experience for anyone who’s ever reluctantly been the guest of honor at a party. We’re in!
“So excited to get cracking with the intensely brilliant Leslye Headland, the GOAT with a heart of gold Amy Poehler, and Netflix, the safe haven I’ve been searching for since the ’80s, said Lyonne in a statement. “Deeply moved to work with such heavy hitters and to share our show with the world.
Headland will reportedly write the first episode of the series and co-write the rest of the first season alongside Lyonne.
Poehler will executive produce the series with her production company Paper Kite, which also produces Hulu’s hit series Difficult People. While it seems that Poehler will largely stay off camera, we’re hoping she also follows in Fey’s shoes and makes at least a few onscreen appearances on the series — à la Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
