‘America’s Next Top Model’ aired its final episode, so feels abound
Reality show America’s Next Top Model is ended its run last night after 22 cycles. Since we first heard the news back in October, there was still some uncertainty about whether or not it was actually over. But, after last night, it’s official. Cycle 22 marks the end of this iconic series, and the final winner was announced.
Luckily, the show is exiting on a super high note. Winner Nyle DiMarco isn’t just a talented model, he’s also making history as the first deaf contestant and winner. The purpose of the show has always been to give regular people a shot at something that previously seemed so unattainable, and we can’t think of a better message to land on than one of disability awareness and acceptance.
Then, of course, there’s Tyra. This model/actress/all-around inspiration hosted the show for the entirety of its twelve-year run, even coining words like “smize” and “flawsome.” The end of the show doesn’t mean the end of her career — you know Tyra wouldn’t let that happen. She already has some amazing things planned, including come back to star in Disney’s Life-Size 2.
It is definitely sad that the show is ending, but it’s certainly not going to fade from our hearts. I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes one of those staple shows that we catch during reruns and special marathons. It changed the face and culture of fashion as we know it, and even with the door closed on future episodes, the past seasons still have a lot we could learn from. Anyone up for a binge-watching sesh?
