Here’s who’s going to sing the National Anthem at the Trump Inauguration

As the President Elect hobbles his cabinet together, he’s making sure one thing comes together: the inauguration on January 20th. 16-year-old singer Jackie Evancho announced this morning on the Today show that she will perform the national anthem at the historic event.

Evancho competed on America’s Got Talent at just ten years old, placing second that season.

Evancho’s mother later told The Huffington Post that a duet with opera singer Andrea Bocelli is in consideration for the event, but nothing is yet set in stone.

The PEOTUS’s choice of Evancho takes the anthemic spotlight in a slightly different direction from recent years. Beyonce handled the national tune at the second inauguration for President Obama, following Aretha Franklin, who performed during his first ceremony.

But Evancho also has sung for Obama, at more intimate events. In 2010, she sang “O Holy Night” at the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in front of the White House.

In 2012, she sang “The Lord’s Prayer” at the National Prayer Breakfast.

Since her turn on America’s Got Talent, she’s performed literally all over. She’s released several albums that have hit gold or platinum, and was the youngest performer in history give a solo concert at New York’s Lincoln Center.

She’s also met Trump before.

So, this girl has the singing-for-big-names thing down. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t get nervous, though. “I’m nervous right now,” she tells Today. “I get nervous for everything.”

With a voice as warm as hers, we’re hopeful she’ll be able to calm our own nerves come January 20th.
