Looks like “American Horror Story” Season 7 won’t be as politically charged as it originally seemed
It appears Ryan Murphy has thrown us for a loop yet again, because Season 7 of American Horror Story won’t be quite as we imagined.
Murphy previously announced that the upcoming season — which we now know is American Horror Story: Cult — would revolve around the 2016 presidential election.
But it turns out that Cult won’t be as politically-charged as we originally thought.
According to executive producer Alexis Martin Woodall, the current administration doesn’t play as big of a role. Instead, Season 7 is more about the state of the world, rather than the actual election.
“When Ryan had to make the announcement originally that the season was going to deal with Trump, she said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, “I think it’s more about what’s going on in our world around us.
The season will feature the emotions surrounding the election, apparently, but not so much the election itself.
Woodall added that we can expect a “streak of paranoia” ahead, and that the season remains “on-brand.”
“It’s not what you think it is — and I’m not trying to be cagey. It’s just with all good horror and suspense not knowing is going to be good for you. Woodall said.
She added that the season will have, “bloody tension, a well-cooked meal, [and] an exciting trip to a grocery store. It is true to our brand, which is you are going to be in a whole new world all over again, and fall in love with these really special characters and hate yourself for watching it before you go to bed.”
AHS newcomer Billie Lourd said, “This is straight-up horror drama, I’d say. It’s definitely less of my comedic side and more of my dark side.”
American Horror Story: Cult premieres on FX on September 5th, and it can’t come soon enough.
