And now for something completely different, Evan Peters played Jesus on “American Horror Story: Cult”
Just when you think, “American Horror Story: Cult can’t get any more out there, can it?” it goes and brings Jesus into the mix. The latest episode of Season 7, “Drink the Kool-Aid” revolved around different notable cults from the last 50 years or so, and then Jesus comes into the picture. Yes, that Jesus. And he was played by long-time American Horror Story cast member, Even Peters.
Nothing about this should surprise you.
So how did we get to the point where Peters is now also playing Jesus, along with blue haired Kai Anderson? The road here is a long and difficult one, and might be the strangest one on American Horror Story yet. This season has dealt with — it’s in the title! — cults. Before the season even started, showrunner Ryan Murphy teased that Peters would be playing multiple cult leaders — Charles Manson, Jim Jones, David Koresh, and Andy Warhol. Two episodes ago, we saw him channel a pretty spot-on Warhol, as we learned more about his Factory “cult.” And now, in the latest episode, we saw the rest of the cult leaders.

And also Jesus.
During what is basically an AHS history lesson (American Horror Story loves to rewrite history, in case you hadn’t noticed), we flash back to Jim Jones’ cult, The People’s Temple, which ended with 900+ people dead in Jonestown, Guyana. That should be the end of the story there, except that — as Jones told his followers — they would be reborn and stuff…and then we actually saw that happen during the episode. And since this is AHS, it went all AHS-y with the rebirth, and Jesus came down from the rafters, like some middle school deus ex machina, and brought Jones and everyone else back to life.
Peters was obviously playing Jim Jones. And also Jesus. Twitter had a wide range of reactions, most of them falling in the lines of, “What exactly is happening here?”

So if anyone’s wondering who won Halloween, it was probably Even Peters. I guess this is what we get for complaining about the LACK of Peters during Roanoke.
