Let’s talk about the latest ‘American Horror Story’ casting shake-up
The new season of American Horror Story is shaping up to be a pretty epic season. First, Lady Gaga joins the cast. Now, Matt Bomer has signed on to play one of the lead roles, too! Things are already looking up for AHS: Hotel, even though none of us will probably ever want to book a night there, ever.
This casting announcement went down at AHS‘s PaleyFest over the weekend (For those unfamiliar with PaleyFest, it’s a TV-centric panel, involving our favorite shows, where audience members usually get to ask questions, so it’s awesome. Also, it streams online FOR FREE, so even if you’re not in LA, you can watch it live). Bomer joined the the AHS: Freak Show cast onstage, hereby marking his return to the show — he actually had a role in an episode of Freak Show. But now, he’s the lead!
Only thing is, though, that he knows very little about his character. Bomer told Deadline that, “I can’t confirm or deny that there might be a love interest, [of Lady Gaga].” If we weren’t paying attention to this new season before, we most certainly are now.
However, this sweet casting news comes hand in hand with a little bit of sorrow — one long standing AHS cast member won’t be back. Sadly, it’s Jessica Lange. “I’m done,” she told the crowd, who I imagine started softly weeping, “We’ve had a great run here. I have absolutely loved doing these four characters that I’ve had the opportunity to play, and in all madness, I love the writers and Ryan [Murphy] and the insanity of shooting it. I’ve done four great characters. It’s enough.”
So for season 5, Bomer’s in, Lange’s out. We’re OK with this trade off, as long as we can maybe get them both back for season 6.
