Despite concerns, “American Crime Story: Katrina” will still air

Things hadn’t been looking too good for American Crime Story: Katrina lately, as news recently broke that the season had stalled.
Well, Ryan Murphy fans rejoice!
According to FX head honcho John Landgraf, American Crime Story: Katrina is in a really good shape, despite the fact that the project appeared to have been put on the back burner. In fact, Murphy is almost ready to tell us what’s happening himself.
“I’m confident that it will air and I’m really, really excited, Landgraf said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. “It was a big creative pivot we made. It was a difficult decision because we were far along [in] one creative direction, and Ryan decided — and we supported Ryan — that the bar is really high for this franchise and we just weren’t confident we were going to get over it."
Murphy and the network decided to shift things because they didn’t feel right.
And it sounds like that was for the better because Landgraf is feeling really good about the move.
“I’m now more confident about it creatively than I was before we made this pivot,” he said. “I think one of the directors, Anthony Hemingway, had said it stalled. It’s not. It’s in a really good shape, but Ryan is trying to get his ducks in a row to make an announcement to you guys…I think it’ll come out relatively soon.”
Hopefully sooner rather than later!
We’re on the edge of our seats, and still have so many questions that need to be answered. Like, how will this creative pivot affect the previously announced cast? Dennis Quaid signed on as President George W. Bush, with Matthew Broderick as FEMA Director Michael D. Brown, and Annette Bening as Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco.
As for the fourth season of American Crime Story, Landgraf also has very high hopes.
It will center on the Monica Lewinsky scandal, and will draw inspiration from Jeffrey Toobin’s A Vast Conspiracy — which ACS‘ team has optioned. “We love the book. We are developing it as a script. We really want to make it. We just need to get the script right and we don’t have it yet,” he told Entertainment Weekly.
This is all so exciting, and we especially can’t wait for that upcoming American Crime Story: Katrina announcement!
