America Ferrera opened up about whether or not her baby will have a unique name like hers
After wonderfully surprising her fans with a baby announcement, America Ferrera talked about baby names — one of our favorite topics — with Stephen Colbert during an appearance on The Late Show. While we don’t expect her to immediately have her top picks just yet, she’s at least open about the type of name she wants for her future son or daughter.
Ferrera, who’s been successfully leading the sitcom Superstore since 2015, married husband Ryan Piers Williams back in 2011. The two are rumored to have started their relationship in 2005 after connecting at school. Williams also works as an actor but also has credits in directing and writing.
While chatting with Colbert during her fourth appearance on the show, he made note of one of her most popular roles — Carmen, in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Obviously, when you’re pregnant, your body changes a bit, so Colbert jokingly asked her if the pants still fit. And we can’t help but love her response — “Do you know what magic means Stephen?” she said. “Yes they’re magic, they would fit me all times.”
Pants aside, we were curious about anything and everything she had to say about her pregnancy.
While Ferrera hasn’t revealed the sex of her child (and we’re unsure if she knows yet) she said that he or she probably wouldn’t have a unique name like “America.”

In Colbert’s words, America Ferrera is a type of name that’s inspired by “a land mass or an idea” — which is kind of funny.
"I love my name now but growing up with the name America is not easy," the actress admitted. "I don’t want to put that on my child because I know what that feels like, so I’m going to go with something that is more a name."
We know that her and her husband are going to choose something great when the time comes.
