We are so here for Amber Rose raising her son to be a feminist

We all know feminism is the belief that your gender shouldn’t determine your opportunities in life. Feminism isn’t just beneficial for women and girls, but for boys and men as well. That’s exactly why Amber Rose is raising her three-year-old son, Sebastian, to be a feminist.

At an  interview with People for this week’s issue, Amber explained that Sebastian is her “little pumpkin” that she “kiss[es] all day long.” But through her affection, she’s also determined to be a strong, guiding force for him. “Having him was like, you know what, I have to be stronger than I ever have been in my whole life, for him,” she told People. “He needs to look at his mom as Superwoman.”

Amber has already proven herself to be a feminist superhero, after she came to the defense of Kim Kardashian during her nude selfie controversy and even held her own SlutWalk in downtown L.A. And she’s extending her beliefs to her parenting, making sure that she sets an important example for her son. “I’m raising him to be a feminist,” she said. “Women are getting sexually assaulted. I’ve been sexually assaulted hundreds of times, just walking through the club.”

She hopes that her lessons will teach Sebastian will stand up for women when he’s older, including in front of his friends at school. “When my son goes to school and his friend calls a girl a ‘hoe,’ I want him to be the first person to say, ‘Man, that’s not cool. You don’t talk to women like that,’” she told People. “That’s very important to me.”

Amber Rose isn’t the only parent in the spotlight who has spoken up about feminist parenting: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has spoken often about the cause. “We shouldn’t be afraid of the word ‘feminist,’” Trudeau said at the World Economic Forum in January. “Men and women should use it to describe themselves anytime they want.” He added that he and his wife, Sophie, have been highlighting feminism not only to their daughter, but to their two sons, so that they “grow up to be a feminist, just like Dad.”

And boom, there you go: Amber Rose and Justin Trudeau, two very different people who both have a great idea!
