Amazon Prime Day is coming. Prepare to shop your brains off.
Amazon is celebrating its 20th birthday (crazy, right?) by launching Prime Day, a global shopping extravaganza for Prime members that could just out-bargain even the most legendary of annual shopping days: the one and only Black Friday.
On Wednesday, July 15, new and existing Prime members all around the globe will be given crazy deals and mega-bargains for a period of 24 hours. Unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping is a given and discounted prices on products “across categories including electronics, toys, video games, movies, clothing, patio, lawn and garden, sports and outdoor items and more” will be open and widely available.
In a statement released by Amazon, the company states:
Know what else? Shoppers can place orders on laptops, tablets and smartphones. Hoo boy.
Meanwhile, Amazon’s offering non-members a 30-day free trial of its signature service in light of their newly minted holiday. (Normally, it would cost $99 per year.)
Clearly, this is part of yet another ongoing attempt to woo shoppers into the fold— a.k.a. to bring more customers to Prime, which was introduced back in 2005 and now has an estimated 40 million US members. Since it’s launch, Amazon Prime has no doubt brought the company plenty of benefits, with a recent ComScore report revealing that “Prime members make twice as many purchases as nonmembers, and they spend 40% more per transaction.”
Unsurprisingly, the company’s taking full advantage of their great success and continuing on their quest to dominate the digital marketplace. In addition to the July 15 event, they’ll also be expanding on Prime Now, a new rapid-delivery service that’s also exclusive to its Prime members. As of last week, the one-hour delivery service was introduced to parts of central London, marking the company’s first expansion of its service outside of the U.S.
So as Amazon has so boldly declared: “Step aside Black Friday, meet Prime Day,” your newest frenemy.
