Amazon is doing the most extra thing ever to celebrate “Manchester by the Sea”
This past award season, Manchester by the Sea won a whole slew of awards, taking home two Academy Awards — one for Best Actor and the other for Best Original Screenplay. It also made a lot of people cry! But no more tears now— Amazon Studios has some big plans for celebrating the award darling’s debut on Amazon Prime.
Wanting to stand above those other streaming sites with prestigious awards, Amazon is giving back to the town that served as the movie’s namesake. Manchester by the Sea arrives on Prime Video on May 5th, and to celebrate, Amazon is giving everyone in Manchester by the Sea, the town, a year’s subscription to Amazon Prime.
That’s one way to celebrate.
“Oscar winning Manchester by the Sea is coming to Prime Video on May 5, and we wanted customers in the town to enjoy popcorn and a movie on us, said Greg Hart, vice president of Amazon Video, worldwide, in a press release. “Manchester by the Sea is a masterpiece representing the best of cinematic storytelling. In other words, it is wicked awesome.
According to Amazon, every home in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts will receive not only a year of Amazon Prime, but also some Wickedly* Prime Popcorn, Amazon’s latest venture into private food labels.
*The popcorn’s name is a pretty great coincidence, since the residents of the great state of Massachusetts have a knack for saying “wicked” all the time, as in, “that Red Sox win was wicked close” or “that line to get Starbucks at Faneuil Hall was wicked long.”
Last census, it was reported that Manchester-by-the-Sea has a population of 5,136, and that is a whole lot of Prime Memberships. And popcorn. And people watching Manchester by the Sea. So if you’re one of the lucky residents of this seaside town, congrats! As for the rest of us, at least we’ve got the movie to keep us company, streaming this Friday. Go Sox.
