Alison Brie responds to the James Franco allegations at the 2018 SAG Awards
The 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards may be a night for actors to celebrate actors, but some tough issues were still addressed on the red carpet. Alison Brie walked the red carpet Sunday night to represent for her empowering Netflix show GLOW, and she also spoke about the sexual misconduct allegations against James Franco, her brother-in-law.
When asked about Franco’s alleged actions, Brie told E!’s Giuliana Rancic, “I think that above all, what we’ve always said is it remains vital that anyone that feels victimized should and does have the right to speak out and come forward. I obviously support my family. Not everything that has been reported is fully accurate, so I think we’re waiting to get all the information. But of course now is the time for listening and that’s what we’re all trying to do.”
After the 2018 Golden Globes, Franco was accused of sexual misconduct by five women, including The Breakfast Club actress Ally Sheedy, who sent out a tweet, which she later deleted, that implied he was the reason she left Hollywood.
Franco has since denied the claims, saying they were not accurate reflections of his behavior. He even discussed the controversy during an interview with Stephen Colbert. This Saturday, Scarlett Johansson publicly spoke out against Franco for the allegations during a speech at the Women’s March.
Brie is married to Franco’s brother, Dave Franco, and starred in The Disaster Artist alongside him. She is attending the SAG Awards because of her role in GLOW, which sends a strong message of female empowerment.
