Nothing compares to the joy of hearing Alex Trebek sing Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella’
By now, it should be common knowledge that Alex Trebek knows how to lay down a tune. Based on his rendition of the Fresh Prince theme song, it’s obvious that Trebek brings a certain flair to classic, well-loved music that’s unlike any cover you’ll ever find on YouTube. When he is made to read lyrics for a clue on Jeopardy, it is a gift to us all — and now, he has another song to add to his repertoire.
As Allison Bagg writes for Buzzfeed, “Nothing can prepare you for Alex Trebek singing Rihanna’s ‘Umbrella.’” And it’s true — I wasn’t ready. This clip has inspired so many follow-up questions, I’m not even sure where to begin. Has Trebek ever heard Rihanna’s “Umbrella” before? How did the contestants not react to witnessing such unmatched greatness? How much money would it take to hear him read the lyrics to “BBHMM”?
