Alec Baldwin’s reaction to Donald Trump’s election victory is sobering but SO important

For months, he has been tickling our funny bones with his impersonation of Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live. Now, Alec Baldwin reacts to Donald Trump’s presidential win, and his response isn’t quite as funny. Many of us were shocked by the election results last night, because the polls got things so wrong. Clearly, we weren’t the only ones as many people were shocked by the election results. And we’re pretty sure Hillary Clinton, who would’ve been our first woman president, was shocked as well.

Alec Baldwin urges some time for reflection and love for both ourselves and those we love.

We think Alec is right on point in saying that we should focus on our families. He, like so many of us, feels like our political system failed us somehow. In his call to walk away from it, we feel like he’s calling us to put our energies elsewhere. Maybe into volunteering or giving back, rather than spending all our time with politics.

Alec’s reference of Coriolanus is interesting. Coriolanus is a tragedy by Shakespeare about a man who runs for government with the support of fellow politicians, but who can’t win the support of the people. It’s not directly parallel, because as it stands now, Hillary Clinton, who is the more established politician, will probably win the popular vote as well. But the quote Alec cites, “there is a world elsewhere” is very thought provoking.

We agree that there is a world outside of government, and we need to focus on that world where we might make a difference.

Alec Baldwin also expressed a lot of the frustrations we’re feeling about the choices in this election.

While we honor everyone’s right to vote for whoever they want, we’re struggling to find the logic behind it all. But we know that the people of this country are awesome, and we can’t wait to see how the nation bounces back.

While we are still reeling from the results last night, like so many, we take comfort in the positive messages of love and hope.

We know there’s a lot of work to do, but we’re ready!
