Alden Ehrenreich talks about playing young Han Solo and we can’t wait to see him

Playing an iconic role is an opportunity pretty much every actor dreams of,  and rising star Alden Ehrenreich (who dazzled us in Hail Caesar!) is totally living that dream, playing a young playing a young Han Solo in a Star Wars film all about the stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, Nerf-herder (Princess Leia’s words, not ours).

The film takes place before the original trilogy, hits theaters in 2018, and features directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. They’re the writing-directing duo that are bringing us SO much quality film and television these days (The Lego Movie, 21 Jump Street, The Last Man on Earth, the list goes on). Also, we just learned that Donald Glover is going to be starring alongside Alden Ehrenreich as a young Lando Calrissian, which just makes us DOUBLY excited for this film

We were straight-up delighted to learn that Alden Ehrenreich had a rad as heck audition for his role of a lifetime.

“My one screen test was on the Millennium Falcon — which was really cool — with Chewbacca. That was pretty trippy!" Alden Ehrenreich recently told People.

And it was fun to find out that Alden Ehrenreich is basically as giddy as we are re: the whole Han Solo thing.

“Getting to be around that world, now I’ve been around the fans a little bit, and just feeling the love, the real genuine love that people have for this franchise, is really exciting to me, he said. “And also, just being able to work on this particular movie, with this character … That’s really the pleasure for me, is the job that I get to actually do on the day-to-day level. Yeah, I just can’t wait!

We can’t wait, either! Oh man, 2018, you feel so far away, time please speed yourself up and bring this movie to us, stat.
