The adorably subtle nod to “Aladdin” you may have missed in the new “Beauty and the Beast” photos

We’re still many months away from setting our eyes on the live-action Beauty and the Beast, but that hasn’t stopped us from getting crazy hyped about Disney’s next adaptation. There were a lot of amazing and beautiful reveals in the brand new images from Disney’s upcoming live-action Beauty and the Beast. We finally got a look at Emma Watson in those iconic Belle looks, as well as Dan Stevens in full CG-form as Beast, and even our first official glimpse of Cogsworth, Lumiere, and Mrs. Potts. However, there was one small detail you may have missed in all this gorgeous image overload…

An adorably subtle nod to Aladdin.

The specific image we’re talking about? The one with Belle and her father.

Check out the beautifully ornate tchotchkes on Maurice’s desk.

Let’s zoom in a little closer, shall we?

What have we here? Well, a miniature of part of the Taj Mahal! And what do we know to be specifically MODELED after the Taj Mahal?

Why, the Sultan’s Palace in Aladdin, of course!

In fact, notice how this adornment on Maurice’s desk is only a portion of the Taj Mahal – it’s missing the minarets (or towers) that surround it in real life. This really makes the decorative piece here in Beauty and the Beast look THAT much more like the Sultan’s Palace.

And we’re also loving that the replica Taj Mahal is ~riding~ on an elephant’s back just like…YOU KNOW…Aladdin himself during his Prince Ali parade!

Admittedly, this isn’t a “confirmed” detail from Disney, but given their penchant for amazing easter eggs, we’re fairly certain this is not a coincidence. And EITHER WAY this is just one more thing to get us pumped for Beauty and the Beast next year because we’re sure it’ll be filled with other classic Disney nods!
