Everyone is freaking out about Airbus’ new airplane seat arrangement design

Once upon a time, boarding a flight meant dressing up in your finest clothes and enjoying top-of-the-line service from flight attendants that dressed like our very own Zooey Deschanel in Almost Famous. Nowadays, you’re lucky if you get half a can of coke on a 6 hour flight from coast to coast. But even without the old-school perks, flying isn’t nearly as bad as it will be if French-owned Airbus’ latest patent for stacked seating actually comes to fruition.

The seating looks like something out of a horror movie, BASICALLY. To maximize capacity (and, we’re assuming, maximize profits), the new designs stacks seating so that humans would be sitting above other humans. It seems weird and not right right and makes us question if we’ll ever fly again if this design becomes a reality.

If you can’t even with this, don’t worry. You’re certainly not alone. The Internet is abuzz with its own freak outs over this absurd design:

The Verge points out that there IS one perk: “at least some of the seats can be configured to lie flat.” Eh, we’ll take normal side-by-side seating over the occasional reclining seat.
