Do you agree with “The Hollywood Reporter’s” Oscar predictions?
We’re so excited for the Oscars this year. The nominees are noticeably more diverse (although we’ve still got a long way to go), and the films themselves seem more innovative, compelling, and creatively diverse than compared to the last few years. Many of the Best Picture nominees such as La La Land, Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Lion, and Fences, have blown our MINDS! But, alas, as the Hollywood Reporter‘s 2017 Oscar predictions show us, many of our favorite films, actors, actresses, directors, and writers will end up going home empty handed. There are only so many awards to give, right?
Here is who the Hollywood Reporter thinks will win:
Best Picture
Prediction: La La Land (Is anyone really surprised? Bueller? Bueller?)
Best Director
Prediction: Damien Chazelle, La La Land
Best Actress
Prediction: Emma Stone, La La Land
Best Actor
Prediction: Denzel Washington, Fences (Denzel can even make reading greeting cards look Oscar-worthy)
Best Supporting Actor
Prediction: Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
Best Supporting Actress
Prediction: Viola Davis, Fences (Viola has been nominated three times now, but has never taken home an Oscar. We hope this is her year!)
We have to say, we agree with all of these predictions. La La Land took home a record-breaking seven Golden Globes, so it’s hardly shocking to see that THR thinks the film will take home three of the biggest awards. We would be shocked if they didn’t win all of the three aforementioned categories, although we would also love to see Moonlight take home Best Picture and for Isabelle Huppert to win the Best Actress category for Elle.
The only category where we might potentially disagree? We think it’s possible Casey Affleck could still win for Best Actor for his performance in Manchester by the Sea. THR thinks that the re-surfacing of his sexual assault lawsuit as well as his less charismatic off-stage persona will prevent him from taking home a golden statue, but we’re not convinced this will be enough — not that we necessarily think it should happen. We love Denzel in everything!
