These adorable baby pandas in Atlanta need new names, and you can vote on them

Whenever we’re feeling a little low, we like to google adorable baby animals like pandas and tigers. But sometimes we want to feel closer to these adorable tiny animals. Well, we might have a way you can — by naming them. These pandas cubs at an Atlanta zoo need new names, and you can vote on them!

Twin 11-week old panda cubs at Zoo Atlanta will be named on their 100th day of life, according to Chinese tradition. So, between now and December 4th, the zoo is taking votes from the public on potential panda names. The pandas will be named officially on December 12th.

These two panda cubs are SO cute, and you can vote on their names!

The President and CEO of Zoo Atlanta, Raymond B. King said, “There’s much more to this milestone than just two names. The permanence of names gives us a celebration of the achievements of the giant panda program at Zoo Atlanta and a continuation of the bright future of one of our longest-lived and most successful conservation partnerships.

The twins are the children of the zoo’s giant pandas, Lun Lun and Yang Yang.

There are seven options of name pairings for the young cubs, all with a special meaning.

All giant pandas at zoos in the United States are technically on loan from China, so the names proposed come from the panda conservation center in Chengdu, China. These are the names and meanings, according to the Zoo Atlanta website:

Ba Lun and Shu Lun: Ba Shu are ancient names of the Sichuan area and are still widely used in China, including Sichuan Province and Chongqing. Ba Shu also means “land of abundance.”

Jiu Jiu and Yuan Yuan: Jiu means “longevity” or “long time.” Yuan means “far distance” or “far away.” Together, they mean “longevity and permanence.”

Lun Jia and Jia Lun: The first Jia means “addition.” The second Jia means “good,” “fine” or “praise.” Lun references daughters of Lun Lun.

Lun Li and Lun Yu: Lun Li means “ethic” or “ethics.” Lun Yu is Confucian Analects, a collection of the sayings of Confucius and one of the pillars of Chinese culture, widely read across centuries.

Ya Lun and Xi Lun: Ya means “elegant;” Xi means “happy;” “Lun” references daughters of Lun Lun – “Lun Lun’s elegant and happy daughters”

Ya Lun and Xin Lun: Similar to Ya Lun and Xi Lun, with Xin meaning “fragrant.”

Yang Hai and Yang Gui: Yang is a reference to Yang Yang and means “ocean.” Hai means “sea.” Gui has many meanings, including “laurel.”

Whatever their names, there’s no denying that these little cubs are SO cute!

We hope this panda family has an adorable and happy life together!
