Adidas surprised us by releasing the shoes worn in Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou”
A small, yet potent, miracle happened today in the sneaker world. Adidas answered Wes Anderson fans’ prayers and released a version of the Team Zissou customized sneaks from The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. This may not seem like a big deal to mainstream sneaker-heads. But this limited-edition release is a huge win for fans who have fought for this sneaker for over 13 years.
The film is a classic, quirky Anderson creation about an oceanographer, played by Bill Murray, who assembles a unique crew to find and destroy the mythical shark that killed his partner. The film didn’t do great at the box office, but quickly accumulated a cult following.

And those followers so desperately wanted and needed a pair of Team Zissou Adidas sneakers to call their own. According to Mashable, a petition was drafted after Adidas claimed in 2004 to be “tallying the requests which have come in for these shoes and are encouraging everyone interested to let their voice be heard.”
The petition earned over 4,000 signatures (almost double the petitioner’s original goal). Yet, Adidas let the group down in 2005, stating that they had no intention of releasing their classic 1959 Roms in the punchy blue color.
That is, until now.

Adidas released 100 pairs of the Team Zissou shoe during the We Love Green music festival in Paris. Each shoe is hand-painted, making each pair a unique creation.
They went for $254.98 USD and, as of today, each pair has been sold.
Perhaps due to the success of their Wes Anderson Roms, Adidas will rerelease another batch for those who didn’t get a chance to get their hands on a pair.
This story just goes to show that the squeaky wheel really does get the grease! Congrats to the Life Aquatic fans for fighting the good fight!
