A few things we learned in Adele’s latest, greatest cover story
After waiting for what felt like 25 years for her latest album, 25, to drop, Adele almost instantaneously made us cry, and then went on to smash all sorts of records. You could say that Adele is the Star Wars of music right now (or maybe Star Wars is the Adele of movies), because there’s no telling how high she’ll climb until she’s conquered all. The soulful lady is everywhere right now, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
One place she’s currently located is the cover of this week’s Time magazine, where the past (and, duh, future) Grammy winner opens up about everything from her music, to the Internet, to motherhood. The entire story is worth a read and is now on newsstands if you want to grab a copy for yourself. These are just some of the best things we learned when she opened up — and said exactly what’s on her mind.
Adele is not related to the Queen
Adele is actually really funny, you guys. She proves this a few times throughout the interview, which for Adele, is simply saying whatever is on her mind. While she’s trying to figure out why she’s so famous (she doesn’t get it herself) she muses that, it could be because “[Americans] think I’m related to the Queen,” before adding, “Americans are obsessed with the royal family.” And TBH, Adele is basically royalty.
Social media is distracting
When it came time to write and record 25, she knew she needed to cut out all social media because, “Privacy is key to being able to write a real record, whether people like it or not…How am I supposed to write a real record if I’m waiting for half a million likes on a f&%$#ing photo? That ain’t real.”
She’s a “lioness” when it comes to her family
Adele is a very private person, and we respect that. She just wishes everyone would respect that.
“If you try to intrude or come near my family, I’m a lioness,” she explains. “Especially because my boyfriend isn’t famous. So I think it’s really unfair for anyone to want unlimited access to my family when we’re not a brand.” As for her 3-year old son, Angelo, “If my kid decides that when he’s old enough to make his own decision that he wants to be known for being my kid, I’ll be annoyed, but I won’t stop him.”
Angelo keeps her grounded
Right now, everything for Adele is non-stop, and that includes not only music, but watching after her little one too. But instead of making her extra busy, she realizes “he’s been keeping me totally cool and calm about the whole thing.”
And she’s SUPER proud of Angelo
Though he’s only 3, Adele is beaming with pride over her son. Not because he’s already a gifted musical genius or anything, but because, “I’m so proud of myself that I made him in my belly. Cooked him in my belly and then he came out of me! This human who’s suddenly walking around and doing his own thing. I can’t wait to know who his best friends are going to be, who his girlfriend or his boyfriend is going to be or what movies he likes… Whatever my kid wants to do or be I will always support him no matter what.”
How does that statement make us BOTH laugh AND cry??
Bey is her Queen, too
There was a rumor that Adele was going to duet with Beyoncé. It didn’t happen. But Adele sure wishes it did. “Anyone who knows me knows that my main priority in life outside of my child is Beyoncé,” she states, and yeah, same.
She’s cool to talk about her anxiety
Adele is “uncomfortable being famous,” but has learned to live with it, even though the bouts of self doubt. “Do [I] want to be uncomfortable for 20 years, or do [I] want to just settle into it? I don’t want to have plastic surgery. I’m going to look like this forever. Deal with it. Once you deal with it, you feel more calm about it.”
Don’t rule out Adele acting, just yet
Like many artists, Adele has tossed around the idea of jumping into acting. But, she has “no interest in acting for the foreseeable future, at all, especially while I’m doing my music.” However, she would act if her “Hello” director, Xavier Dolan, was behind the camera, because she likes “how he made me feel when I was doing it. So I’d [act] it for him.”
Her dream is to fly
But no one is letting her!! For her upcoming tour, she wants to “fly through the arena for the beginning.” No one is letting her fly though the air. GUYS if Adele wants to fly we let her soar.
