Adele’s Post-Residency Plans May Surprise You
She's trading her microphone for textbooks.
Adele already has her next adventure all lined up. While participating in a fan Q&A in Los Angeles on Monday, Oct. 24, the “Easy on Me” singer teased she’ll be taking a mini break from her music career to pursue a college education in English Literature. “After Vegas, I want to get a degree in English Literature,” Adele told fans, as reported by BBC News.
We can see it now. Adele’s fifth studio album will be a collection of songs inspired by her favorite works of literature. There will be ballads with prose as lyrical as Emily Dickinson and a sweeping love song about Elizabeth and Darcy. Free idea, Adele!
However, Adele doesn’t want to just study English Lit — she has dreams of being an English teacher as well.
“If I hadn’t made it singing, I think I would be an English Lit teacher,” the “Someone Like You” singer-songwriter continued. “I definitely think I use my passion for English lit in what I do. I wish I’d gone to university and had that experience, but I will do it online with a tutor.”
“That’s my plan for 2025, just to get the qualification,” Adele added.

Fans may remember Adele’s tearful reaction to her former English teacher, Ms. McDonald, surprising her at a 2021 UK concert.
“She left in year eight but she got me really into literature, I’ve always been obsessed with English and obviously now I write lyrics,” Adele said of her relationship with English Literature and Ms. McDonald.
“She was so cool, so engaging, and she really made us care, and we knew that she cared about us and stuff like that,” she added.
Currently, Adele is about to kick off her Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace, which was originally scheduled to begin in January 2022. Due to COVID-19 and show logistics, the Grammy winner had to postpone the show indefinitely. Titled “Weekends With Adele,” the concert series will run from November to March 2023.
