Adele’s live version of “Hello” is exactly what we need to start our week
When Adele finally blessed us all with “Hello,” the Internet was blown away by the single — her first in three long years. Off her upcoming album, 25, the song perfectly speaks to the complex emotions of getting to “the other side” of a breakup. And while we love the video, we’re all about hearing this one live.
Over the weekend, Adele performed it at the NRJ Awards in Cannes, and reminded us all why she is one of the most talented people in music. Although it’s not the official live debut, which will happen soon on BBC One, it was just as haunting and gorgeous as you would hope.
Opening with the spotlight tight on Adele, she hits every single gentle note and striking crescendo. She also adds a bit of lightness and personality with gestures that make the song come to life.
Fortunately, this is just the first in a string of live performances rounding out the month and culminating in the NBC special Adele Live in New York City next month. We cannot wait to see them all, but we’re glad we’ve got this one to hold us over!
