Adele’s new album is out, but there are some things you should know first

Finally! We’ve been waiting for this day since Adele surprise-dropped the first single from her new album, 25, back in October. Now, the album is out, and we’re going to spend the next few days (OK, weeks) listening to it nonstop. Except, there’s one thing you should know: the album won’t be available on Spotify.

Gulp. Looks like Adele is taking a page out of Taylor Swift’s book with this one, pulling her album from Spotify and Apple Music. The only way to listen to her glorious music is by purchasing it on iTunes or in store.

This has been a recent trend among artists who feel that streaming their music doesn’t allow them to be adequately paid, and when you work so hard for so long on something, that’s a pretty big deal.

While we’re totally okay with giving Adele her hard-earned money, people are definitely bummed, including Spotify. In an email statement they wrote:

Perhaps soon the album will be streamable, but for now, Adele is taking advantage of the fact that her fan base is so broad and dedicated that they likely won’t hesitate in shelling out the cash.
