Adele just publicly supported Kesha at the Brit Awards
In the aftermath of Kesha’s failed injunction against her former producer and alleged abuser Dr. Luke, a lot of fellow artists have spoken up on behalf of the pop star. Everyone from Lorde to Taylor Swift to Demi Lovato to Lena Dunham have made public statements via social media (or via $250,000 donations) in support of Kesha — though there’s a noticeable silence on the part of male musicians. Now, another huge star in the music world has come out swinging for Kesha: None other than Adele, who publicly voiced her support at the 2016 Brit Awards.
While accepting her Best British Female Solo Artist win, Adele paused after her speech and took a moment to deliver this statement: “And I would like to take this moment to publicly support Kesha.” This is particularly notable because Adele is also signed to Sony, the label that’s currently in the legal contention with Kesha.
Kesha only recently spoke out about Friday’s court decision, and while fans have quickly rallied around her in support, it’s heartening to watch some of the most powerful women in the world throw their star power in her corner. And of course, we’re hoping that her contract case against Dr. Luke and Sony moves forward in her favor.
