Today in Duh: Adam Driver says ‘Force Awakens’ is better than the prequels

In case you haven’t heard, there’s a new Star Wars movie coming out end of next week. But like, LOL, of course you’ve head about it, because everything in life right now is about Star Wars (THIS is actually the most wonderful time of the year). Currently, the new movie is on track to be the highest grossing movie of the year, if not EVER, which means there’s a lot of pressure for it to be good. So rest easy, friends, because Adam Driver says that Force Awakens is so much better than those other Star Wars movies.

No, not the original movies. The other other Star Wars movies. The prequels.

Driver plays big, bad, Darth Vader-looking villain Kylo Ren in the new movie, and who knows what kind of destruction he’s going to bring to the galaxy far, far away. No one aside from the cast of the film has actually seen the movie yet, which means that currently they’re the only basis for what’s in store. Carrie Fisher’s review of the movie includes the fact that your tongue will probably fall out. Harrison Ford called it “a wonderful movie.” As for Driver, his review is that the new movie is better than the prequels — which is what we’ve been hoping for this whole time.

While on a recent trip to the Middle East with his non-profit, Arts in the Armed Forces, Driver was asked about the new movie. In a VICE Video, Driver admits that he can’t say anything about Force Awakens, but when pressed for more information, like “it’s going to be better than the prequels?” he can’t help but respond, “Yes.”

Actually, his real response was, “&$%# yes!”

It’s not like there’s anything particularly wrong with The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. They’re just nowhere near as good as A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. When it comes to Force Awakens, the new hope (sorry) all along has been that it falls more in line with the OG trilogy that felt real, and fun, and gave us characters we could love forever. The prequels gave us green screen on green screen and podracing. Not as real or fun.

But now with Driver’s enthusiastic claim about the movie, we’ll sleep much better at night for the next five days. The dream of new Star Wars being so much better than the prequels will soon become a reality.
