Adam Driver read the “community calendar” for his tiny Indiana hometown, and it was adorable as hell

The town of Mishawaka may be a town unknown to us, but it’s a town that Girls and The Force Awakens star Adam Driver once called home. Located near the Michigan border, the small town formed Adam in ways that he couldn’t even verbalize. He was able to give some intel about his first job — a dishwasher! — and how he used to overthink it while on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. While the actor came on the show to promote his latest film Silence, he and Stephen Colbert decided to have a little fun with his hometown’s community calendar.

While he mostly flew under the radar in his youth (outside of the fact that he started a fight club), the two revisited his small town life with The Late Show‘s public television-inspired segment that brought some life to the Indiana town’s events. After all, in Adam’s own words, “The spirit of this town is something you can’t Misha-walk away from.”

With upcoming events ranging from a David Bowie tribute event— at the risk of “seeing your choir teacher’s junk,” yikes  — and a monthly fish fry, it sounds like Mishawakans have some exciting events on the horizon.

The events of Adam’s town sound hilariously banal, but it feels comforting to know that nearly every small town is similar in some way. You can check it out for yourself here, and cringe a little on how familiar it all sounds.

Though the entire segment is played straight, it’s full of some good zingers and some serious concerns about that one guy we all know from our town. And of course, Adam Driver’s mini-diatribes against that one guy is hilarious. Ugh, we love him.

While this is all fine and good, he’s also been teasing what comes next in Star Wars, and while we have a long, LONG way to go, we at least have this video and Silence to hold us over.
