Kylo Ren is about to be far, far away from space, because Adam Driver is Broadway bound

When he’s done wielding a lightsaber and being all broody as Kylo Ren in The Last Jedi, Adam Driver’s returning to Earth by way of BroadwayDriver will star in a 2019 revival of Burn This, Lanford Wilson’s 1987 drama.

This won’t be Adam Driver’s first time visiting The Great White Way. The Girls alum played Frank Gardner in Mrs. Warren’s Profession in 2010 and Basil Anthony in Man and Boy in 2011. In Burn This, Driver’s character, Pale, is a 1980s New York restaurant owner in a rocky relationship with a dancer named Anna, who recently lost her roommate and dance partner — Pale’s brother.

There’s no word yet on who’s slated to play Anna, but when the show first debuted off-Broadway in 1987, John Malkovich played Pale and Joan Allen earned a Tony for her portrayal of Anna.

Jake Gyllenhaal was initially set for the role when it was scheduled to open in March of this year. News that Driver is taking over comes after the show was delayed last fall due to Gyllenhaal’s “scheduling conflicts.”

If what Driver’s Star Wars co-stars say is still true, the actor’s future Broadway cast mates may be in for some on-set moodiness.

Mark Hamill told Vanity Fair that Driver’s intensity takes some getting used to. And John Boyega says Driver hates hugs. Of course, that could just be because in Star Wars, Driver was playing a Dark Side villain and the guy was just getting into character. Time will tell…

Production notes for Burn This describe Driver’s new role as ” dangerous, sexy, raw, and demanding” — basically just like Kylo — so we’re excited to see where Driver takes things.
