The actor who played Peter Pettigrew in “Harry Potter” looks completely unrecognizable now

British actor Timothy Spall is well known to Harry Potter fans for his role as Peter Pettigrew or “Scabbers” (aka, that untrustworthy turncoat Wormtail and the subject of the biggest Potter plothole ever), who betrayed Harry and his longtime friends in favor of allegiance to the noseless menace Voldemort. Spall was also in a few other huge movies like the movie-musical adaptation Sweeney Todd and modern classic Enchanted, in addition to recently playing the lead role in the biopic Mr. Turner, for which he won Cannes’ Best Actor prize.
Spall had a very particular look in many of his most popular roles, typically portraying heavy-set, sort of grungy-looking characters (for the most part). But recently, Spall has undergone an incredible and inspiring physical transformation.
No, not that kind of transformation.
Here is Spall 11 years ago, attending the world premiere party for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in London with his lovely daughter Mercedes.

And here is Spall just yesterday, hitting the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival to support his latest movie The Journey, in which he plays a lead role.
Wowza! Spall looks like a completely different person after his dramatic weight loss.
As PEOPLE Magazine pointed out, Spall’s son Rafe also recently lost an incredible amount of weight. According to Rafe, his father believed that weight gain was a family trait. “My dad would say there’s a Spall fat gene,” Rafe told The Guardian in 2013.
It seems that the elder Spall followed in his son’s footsteps, losing a ton of weight since he filmed Mr. Turner back in 2013. According to ET Online, Spall has been working hard over the past two years to lose weight and improve his eating habits and health. Spall looks wonderful — but most importantly, it seems as though he’s changed his lifestyle habits and is focusing on his health and well-being. Good for Peter Timothy!
