Abigail Breslin opened up about her experience with sexual assault
Opening up about something as private and sensitive as sexual assault is absolutely never easy, and it takes a tremendous amount of strength and courage. In an Instagram post, Abigail Breslin opened up about her experience with sexual assault in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and we are so incredibly proud.
She shared some powerful words about consent, reminding people that even if you’re dating or married, that is not automatic consent. You are never obligated to have sex with someone because of a relationship status. In many cases of sexual assault, the victim personally knows their assailant, and Breslin noted that she knew hers.
This post has been liked over 11,000 times, and many people have commented that they too knew their assailant. It’s hugely important that the conversation surrounding sexual assault and sexual harassment continues, because the more people who share their experiences, the closer we can get to making this a thing of the past.
If you have been sexually assaulted or know someone who has, there are many organizations to reach out to for help, like RAINN and Safe Horizon.
Although it might be awkward, scary, or difficult at first, it’s always worth talking through a situation that you feel in your gut wasn’t right.
so beyond thankful by the immense support regarding my IG post last night. I am so lucky to have all of you kind souls in my corner. 💕
