Rejoice! ABC’s New Year’s gift to us is back-to-back ‘Lizzie McGuire’

Starting December 29th through January 2nd, 2015, we get to bask in the glory that is 2000s Disney Channel nostalgia! ABC Family’s “That’s So Throwback” programming block (which includes Lizzie McGuire, Even Stevens, and That’s So Raven) is ending, and what is a better way to say goodbye than marathon ALL our (available) favorite Disney Channel shows? (Hint: there is no better way.)

While I’m all about That’s So Raven and Even Stevens, Lizzie owns a special place in my heart. Maybe it was the crimped hair and the glittery butterfly hair clips, or the awesome, impenetrable bond Lizzie had with Miranda and Gordo. It could have possibly been that time we were all rooting for Lizzie and Aaron Carter, or when Lizzie decided she was a rebel and wore a fake nose ring to freak her parents out. Or maybe it was ALL of that.

The truth is that Lizzie McGuire helped me grapple with the weirdness that was high school. With her awkward realness, her fierce loyalty to her friends, and sometimes even her relatable cluelessness, Lizzie showed us that ultimately being true to yourself was the way to go. Even though Lizzie (like any teen) wanted to be cool, Miranda and Gordo helped remind her that she’s awesome just the way she is —butterfly clips and all.
