Abby Wambach running to her wife after the World Cup win will melt you

Love wins, on and off the pitch.

Soccer star Abby Wambach shared a heart-warming kiss with her wife, Sarah Huffman, moments after winning the women’s World Cup final against Japan. The image of them kissing celebrates SO many different victories all at once: A World Cup win, the beautiful acceptance of same-sex marriage in the USA, the possible end of Abby’s career, a couple just so happy to share this moment together. It’s a powerful whammy of heart-stopping wonderfulness.

The impassioned moment is even more poignant for Wambach as it is likely the last time the 35-year-old Olympic gold medalist will compete in a World Cup (many expect her to retire soon).

FYI: Abby, who is known as the “soul” of the U.S. team, is also a world record holder: She’s scored more international goals than any other player in soccer history. Male or female.

The World Cup win was incredibly important to Abby. As her mother Judy has told the press, Abby felt she needed a World Cup win to “validate” her professional soccer career. Consider it validated.

Now, back to the love part. Abby and Sarah tied the knot in Hawaii in 2013, CNN reports, and it’s clear that the bonds between these two are stronger than ever.

Crowds at the game cheered like crazy when Wambach rushed over to her wife right after the American women’s win Sunday night. Here’s the moment of beauty:

Yes. We are crying. As the Women’s Outreach and Resource Collective tweeted, it’s just way too much to celebrate in one picture.

Hats off to Wambach, to the women’s soccer team, to #LoveWins, and to the most tear-inducing kiss we’ve seen in a long time.
