A Proper Old Fashioned
If last week’s post was on what drink to make your girlfriends on Valentines, this is the post on what to make the man in your life. Note that I didn’t say boyfriend. I said man. This is a manly drink. This is the preferred drink of Don Draper.
You know that part in Crazy Stupid Love when Emma Stone goes back to Ryan Gosling’s place for the first time, and he puts on the perfect song and makes her the perfect drink?
This is the perfect drink. This is an Old Fashioned.
It’s as unfussy as it gets: you put an ice cube in a glass, muddle it with some bitters and pour booze on top. You don’t even have to stir the sugar until it dissolves; it’s totally acceptable to serve it with a stirring stick.
It’s not for the faint of heart, nor is it for the pretentious. But if the man in your life likes his drinks strong and brown, you’re likely to get a whole lot of brownie points if you pour him one of these.
And if you pour yourself one, too, all the better.
Old Fashioned

Pour the bourbon on top. Stir and top with a cherry.
