A memorial statue for Chris Cornell will be erected in his hometown

Statues are typically reserved for very important people, which explains why a statue of late musician Chris Cornell will be built in his hometown of Seattle. The frontman for the popular band Soundgarden passed away on May 18th, and the cause of death was ruled to be suicide. According to Cornell’s wife, Vicky, the singer was prescribed Ativan, which has a rare side effect of suicidal thoughts. His passing was an incredible loss, especially since he was such an inspiring force in the music industry.
"I understand everyone is looking for answers that make sense to us. The truth is, it will never make sense. Because it wasn’t meant to happen," his wife stated to The Seattle Times.
The statue will be sculpted by Wayne Toth, whose past work includes a statue of musician Johnny Ramone. So it’s safe to say that when Cornell’s statue is complete, it’ll be incredible.
Vicky stated to The Seattle Times that her and her children have already approved the design, which should take about seven months to complete.
"He is Seattle’s son, and we will be bringing him home and honoring him, I hope, with all of you, your love and support," she said.
The family is still looking for the perfect place in Seattle to place the statue, but we have a feeling that they’ll find a few great options.
This isn’t the only way that Cornell is being honored. Vicky has also set up a music therapy program in her late husband’s honor, called the Chris Cornell Music Therapy Program, which is incredibly touching.
