A Galentine’s Day Gift Guide

In 2009, the television gods blessed us with Parks and Recreation, the best show in the universe. Shortly after, Parks and Rec’s Leslie Knope introduced us to Galentine’s Day– the best way to spend the day before Valentine’s Day. On this day, you leave your significant other at home and go celebrate friendship with your girls over mimosas and waffles and more waffles!

Our lady friends are the best, you guys. They encourage us when we’re feeling down in the dumps, they make sure we don’t have anything in our teeth after eating a burrito, they will let us borrow their favorite dress because they love us, and they will always, no matter what, have our backs.

Here are some ways to show thanks to your best girl friends on Galentine’s Day.

Tons of Delight Necklace, $8.99 at Modcloth

This cute little elephant necklace symbolizes the memories you and your bestie share. We’ve all gone through some rough patches, but it’s okay! We’ve survived and come out stronger. This gold necklace is also just adorable and goes with just about anything.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) by Mindy Kaling, various prices at Amazon

To me, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? is a classic that must be owned by everyone. Mindy Kaling, who is a super talented powerhouse, shares hilarious, and relatable stories about her childhood, what she did post-college, and how she got into the television industry. She also describes her Best Friend Rights and Responsibilities which are essential to any friendship. This book also makes me want to be Mindy’s best friend. Mindy, if you are reading this, can we please hang out?

The Complete First and Second Season of GIRLS, $16.99 each at Amazon

Young adulthood obviously isn’t all it’s cracked up to be sometimes, so why not go through it together? Spend Galentine’s Day on the couch, cringing at Hannah’s sexcapades, Shoshana’s ridiculous dependence on emojis, Marnie’s obliviousness, and Jessa’s see-through dress she wears to work.

Heart Knit Boot Cuffs, $22 at Etsy

It’s cold and these are adorable. Boot cuffs are perfect when you need to tuck in your jeans so they don’t puff out of your boots. Genius? I think so.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Rose, $22.50 at Sephora

I was introduced to Fresh Sugar on my birthday when I paraded into Sephora for my free birthday gift and I have loved this magical tinted lip balm ever since. Rose is my favorite because not only does it hydrate your lips, it also leaves a pretty red tint that’s subtle enough to wear wherever. It also looks good on everyone and is the ultimate lip treatment!

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland Poster, $20.95 at Postertext

This poster is not just an ordinary poster. Nope. This poster contains the entire text from Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland and when your friend goes, “really???” in sheer disbelief, you can say, “yes, really!” I have a Great Gatsby poster and it’s gorgeously framed in my living room and I love it. There are tons more to choose from for your bookish boo, including The Metamorphosis, Dracula, Middlemarch, and Little Women!

More Sauce Kitten Mouse Pad, $15 at Fab

Um, how much do want to squeeze this kitten and simultaneously wonder why a kitten would ever need sauce? Even if you don’t use a mouse because a lot of us just have laptops, you should still just own this because it is wonderful.

Full of Secrets Gold Hair Clip, $55, stellaandbow.com

Thank you, Andrea, for bringing this website to my attention. Stella and Bow sells Mean Girls jewelry and while it is a splurge, it is certainly worth it, because you cannot deny the hours spent watching Mean Girls over and over with your besties in high school. And college. And maybe last weekend.

Purse Organizer, $37.95 at MochiThings.com

The number of times I have been sent into a panic because I couldn’t find a pen, my wallet, my social security card, a bracelet, or lip balm is unbelievable and this thing has totally helped me out. Think of it the pencil holder or Spacemaker we all had in elementary school but for unorganized grown ups!

Sweetheart Collection Chocolates, $30 at Eclipsechocolate.com

Who says you have to wait until Valentine’s Day to get chocolate? This local San Diego chocolate shop sells the most decadent, unique, tasty chocolates I have ever tried. And I’ve tried a lot of chocolate. This package comes with an assortment of different kinds of chocolates like blackberry sage, creme fraiche caramel, and macadamia ginger. YUM.
