A Black Lady Sketch Show will have an incredible amount of huge-name guest stars, and we can’t wait to watch
The number of wildly talented black female comedians is too high to count. With funny ladies like Tiffany Haddish, Leslie Jones, Jessica Williams, and Tracee Ellis Ross, you’d think there would be no shortage of TV comedies with diverse casts, but unfortunately, the world of comedy is still dominated by (mostly white) men. Luckily, the upcoming series A Black Lady Sketch Show is about to revolutionize sketch comedy—all while giving us an overwhelming number of big-name guest stars.
According to Entertainment Weekly, A Black Lady Sketch Show is the first ever sketch comedy created by, written by, and starring all black women. It’s set to premiere on HBO on August 2nd, and it already boasts an amazing cast and crew. Robin Thede, the show’s creator, was the second black woman to write for a late-night talk show, and Insecure‘s Issa Rae is one of the series’ executive producers.
A Black Lady Sketch Show has a core cast of four actresses—Ashley Nicole Black, Quinta Brunson, Gabrielle Dennis, and Thede. Insecure actresses Yvonne Orji and Natasha Rothwell are also in the mix. And the show has a roster of guest stars too long to list in its entirety. The trailer, which dropped today, July 8th, teases appearances from Angela Bassett, Lena Waithe, Marsai Martin, Laverne Cox, Tia Mowry, David Alan Grier, Larry Wilmore, Yvette Nicole Brown, and Kelly Rowland, among many more. If that’s not enough to convince you, it also looks hilarious.

HBO’s website describes A Black Lady Sketch Show as “a narrative series set in a limitless magical reality,” which only makes us want to watch this show more. The creators and stars of the show have taken to Twitter to show their excitement, with Thede even saying she’s more excited for the show than she has been for anything in her career. false false
