More ’90s Shows That Would Make Great Lifetime Movies
The announcement of the unauthorized Lifetime Saved by the Bell movie is still ringing in our ears. It’s really happening: a dramatized version of what went on behind the scenes of our favorite Saturday morning series. Actors will play the actors who played Screech, Zack, Kelly and the rest of the crew. It’s meta, it’s wonderful, and it brings to mind the question: What other ‘90s shows should we pitch to Lifetime? Good news, network executives! We made a handy list:
1. Hey Dude
It’s a little wild and a little strange, how much I love Hey Dude. It was my first introduction to Christine Taylor who I adore (especially when she’s bald Bonnie on Friends). It’s also where I first met Blossom dreamboat, David Lascher and met one of my first Brassy Brunette idols, Brad, played by Kelly Brown. She once told Huffington Post, “We had a cuss jar on the set. We weren’t allowed to cuss on the set, even off film,” she said.
So probably this squeaky clean kid’s show was squeaky clean behind-the-scenes too, but since the old Bar None Ranch is falling apart in the desert, they better act fast otherwise they won’t have a good set for the movie!
2. Family Matters
I LOVED Family Matters (get it, like matters of the family but also like family matters, you guys, you know) but it’s a pretty weird show when you think about it. I think we can all agree on the lasting effects of Steve Urkel. But more, importantly, Stefan Urquelle. The collective “Oh my god, he’s so cute” gasp was heard everywhere when that reveal happened. A spin-off of Perfect Strangers, Family Matters also did cross-over episodes with a lot of other ’90s shows like Full House and Step By Step. I’m sure a lot was going on behind the scenes of all of these shows. I’d also love a new actor to have to take a stab at “Did I do that?”
3. Sabrina the Teenage Witch
As a die-hard Melissa Joan Hart fan from Clarissa Explains It All, I was quick to hop on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch train. I was very invested in Hilda and Zelda and Harvey and Salem and everyone, really. I think obviously the hilarious aspect of a behind-the-scenes tell-all of this show would be the fact that one of the main actors was only seen as a cat.
4. Boy Meets World
It’s perfect timing. Girl Meets World is premiering soon and everyone is so excited about seeing most of the Boy Meets World cast again. So it’s a great time to explore what maybe went on behind the scenes. Obviously they started when they were little kids, so how did they grow up together? Are they still all friends? Did anyone talk to the mom and dad at craft services??
What did we forget? Any other ‘90s shows you’d like to see get the Lifetime treatment?
