9 Actor “Teams” We Absolutely Love
Do Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence have a celebrity name? I’m declaring it Bradnifer. They might not be a couple in real life, but they’re such a great team, they’re worthy of a nickname. Now that it’s settled, I have great news! The long-lost Bradnifer movie, Serena, was finally picked up by Magnolia Pictures and will be released early next year. Serena is a Depression-era film the duo filmed back in 2012, before their other projects – Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle – were even on our radars (Bradnifer: The Early Years).
This will be Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence’s third movie together, with more to hopefully come in their future. While we wait for Serena‘s release, and in honor of those who share the screen, here’s a list of our favorite actors who just keep acting together.
1. Seth Rogen, James Franco and Jonah Hill
And Jason Segel, and Michael Cera, and . . . It’s hard to narrow this group down, but Seth Rogen, James Franco and Jonah Hill are the ringleaders, uniting everyone in This is the End. Rogen and Franco are freaks for life, but Hill is an instrumental part of the fun too, despite his much-mocked status as a two-time Academy Award nominee. Hill and Rogen are hilarious in Superbad, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Funny People and Horton Hears a Who! And you know Rogen and Franco from Freaks and Geeks and Pineapple Express. Still, you can’t deny the chemistry of the whole group. What would Knocked Up be without Jason Segel, or This is the End without Craig Robinson?
2. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan
No list of actor BFFs would be complete without Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. They’re the best of the best when it comes to on-screen couples. Yes, Richard Gere and Julia Roberts are wonderful, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard from them. Three films later (Sleepless in Seattle, Joe Versus the Volcano and You’ve Got Mail) and Hanks and Ryan are still going strong! Ithaca, due out next year, boasts Ryan as the star and director and Hanks as the executive producer. Think we can convince Hanks to make a cameo?
3. Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider
Whenever I need a laugh, Adam Sandler’s random fits of rage and Rob Schneider’s bizarre supporting characters do the trick. See: The Waterboy, 50 First Dates, Big Daddy, Mr. Deeds, You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, Grown Ups. . . . the list just keeps goes on. Even when they aren’t sharing the spotlight, Sandler still appears behind the scenes. Now that’s a duo.
4. B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling
I am obsessed with these two together, both on and off screen. The former couple are still friends and colleagues. Since The Office has ended, they continue to support each other (hi, Novak’s cameo on The Mindy Project) and have nothing but love for one another. Can we make this duo a trio? I’m available.
5. Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day
It all started with Going the Distance and blossomed from there with Horrible Bosses. Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day both steal the show on their own, so when you put them together, they’re unstoppable. How anyone can get through a scene with them is beyond me. They’re a fairly new tag-team, so hopefully this is just the beginning for them.
6. John Corbett and Nia Vardalos
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I could watch these two grocery shop, they’re so good together. If you liked them in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, stop what you’re doing and watch I Hate Valentine’s Day. There’s something so real and heartfelt about the relationships they portray together; their chemistry is easy. Lucky for us, a reunion is in sight: Vardalos is working on a MBFGW sequel!
7. Steve Carell and David Koechner
Imagine a world where Steve Carell is your father and David Koechner is your crazy uncle. I want to go to there. You know them from the Anchorman movies, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Get Smart and The Office. When you hear things like “a lot of this scene was improvised,” these two immediately come to mind. From traveling salesman to father in a health clinic, where there’s Carell, there’s Koechner. I would absolutely watch a TV show called Carell & Koechner. Just throwing out ideas.
8. Jon Hamm and Kristen Wiig (and Maya Rudolph)
This trio achieved fame with Bridesmaids and acclaim for Friends with Kids (heck, throw Chris O’Dowd in there, too). And then there’s SNL. They can make you laugh, make you cry and make you laugh until you cry. Oh, and they’re not bad to look at, either. What more could you want?
9. Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau
These two are so money and they don’t even know it. Swingers, Made, The Break-Up, Couples Retreat—they’ve been making movies together for a long time, but nothing will ever top their banter in Four Christmases. Jon Favreau saying “Flip the tube” and Vince Vaughn yelling “Shish!” sends me into a wild fit of uncontrollable giggles, every time.
Now, I’m off to create a Kickstarter that will reunite Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio in a remake of Kate & Leopold. It’s been too long, you guys.
