8 Fantastic Fictional Detective Teams
Pretty Little Liars returns this week and with it we resume the team’s never ending hunt for A. But the Liars weren’t the original mystery cracking dream team. And, let’s face it, they’re not even that great considering they still basically haven’t discovered the true mystery about what happened one night that they’ve been investigating for like, four years. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love them! And they just get us thinking about how mystery-solving best friends are a longstanding tradition in the realm of pop culture. Take a look at this rundown of our favorite fictional detective teams.
Sure, sometimes these girls can miss some obvious clues – like, yeah, maybe be suspicious of a teacher who wants to date a student. Maybe don’t trust that guy. I don’t know. It’s not like that’s abnormal behavior or anything. But keep in mind, someone’s trying to kill or maim them pretty much at all hours of the day. No breaks for holidays or birthdays! And all the while, they manage to maintain excellent manicures and have perfectly coiffed tresses. A+ ladies. Get it!? Get it. Yeah, we all get it.
Scooby and the Gang
If it weren’t for these meddling kids, there’d be all sorts of crazy criminals running rampant. We can’t be sure why Scooby and Shaggy were always so hungry or how Velma managed to put up with all their shenanigans, but this mystery team always got their man. Who was never a ghost and was almost always a cranky old man trying to ruin everyone’s good time. Not while Scooby’s around!
Charlie’s Angels
Great hair, makeup and outfits? Check. Supported by an anonymous, super-rich benefactor? Check. Revived as a movie series in the 2000s with even crazier costumes, action sequences, and wackier crimes to solve? Check. The Angels had it all and looked good while doing it.
Mary-Kate and Ashley
These gals will solve any crime by dinner time. Maybe the PLL girls should take a page from their book. But the twins couldn’t do it on their own. They needed help from their Basset Hound sidekick, Clue. It seems dogs are excellent at solving mysteries.
Nick and Nora
Everyone knows the secret to a lasting marriage is fighting crime together. Just look at Nick and Nora Charles from The Thin Man series. And, you guessed it, they also have a dog – the incorrigible Asta. This series jumped from page to screen and I’m so happy it did. Boozy sassy banter flies back and forth faster than you shake a bloody dagger at it, and in between the happy couple still manages to cram in solving their mystery.
The ultimate in mystery solvers, since they take their crime with a heaping helping of fresh steaming alien origins. And if you’re in need of a paranormal crime fighting duo whose relationship is frought with sexual tension, this is the pair for you!
Holmes and Watson
The classic and classy team is timeless. This team has been featured on screen so many times it’s hard to choose who best portrayed them. Let’s admire the latest iteration, Cumberbatch and Freeman. Who do you think has played Holmes best?
Veronica, Wallace, and Mac
Though Veronica did a lot of the legwork on her own, she’d be nowhere without Wallace to pull files and Mac to do all her tech hacking and cracking. A detective is only as good as her team, and Veronica had a fantastic one. And we were happy to discover they were still friends at their 10 year high school reunion.
