7 reasons having sex on the first date is actually an amazing idea

Everyone has their own ideas about how a first date should end. There are people who think that you should wait to sleep with someone new until it’s been longer than a few hours that you’ve known them, but really, having sex on the first date is an amazing idea. What are you dating for anyway if not to find a new person to sleep with? Sure, you might want a partner and all of that relationship stuff, but sex is a pretty big deal. And do you really want to date someone you don’t vibe with sexually? Let us answer that for you: No, you don’t.

A lot of this whole “wait until the third date” stuff is pretty old-fashioned. That’s what cranky old people used to tell women so that people didn’t think they were “easy.” But this is 2017, and if sex is coming “easily” to you, you should be proud of that fact.

The truth is this: Sleeping with someone on the first date is not a bad thing.

That said, there’s no pressure to have sex with someone on the first date. But if you’re feeling it, no one should judge you for getting yours after some drinks. Why deny yourself the pleasure?

If a date ends with sex, you should consider yourself lucky. Here’s why you should jump into bed (or anywhere else) with your new date.

1You need to know what you’re working with.

When you meet someone new, you have to make a lot of judgement calls. Are they interesting? Do they make you laugh? So why not get right to the point and see if you have sexual chemistry? Yes, sometimes the first time sleeping with someone is not always their best performance, but it’s smart to at least get an idea how they work in bed.

2You can check out their crib.

It’s always easier to bring someone back to your place so you don’t have to commute after doing the deed, but it’s also kind of fun to see how other people live. If you’re going to sleep with someone on the first date and go back to their place, you’re really checking a lot of things off of the “do I like this person” list. Are they messy or clean? Do they have good taste in books and furniture? Snacks? Bonus points if their house is way nicer than yours and have good products in their shower. You found yourself a keeper (or at least a place you won’t hate to visit sometimes).

3You really get to know someone.

First dates can be awkward AF. When you finally leave the bar and start to get physical, you can finally relax! Obviously, you’re both letting your guard down, so you get a glimpse into what the person is like all the time, and not just their weird, first date-self.

4There’s no “game.”

Once you sleep with someone, you’ve surpassed that weird first-date zone. You’ve bonded, so to speak, at least to the level that you’re comfortable seeing each other naked, which hey, isn’t nothing. From there, the subsequent texts and hang out sessions are just easier. After you’ve gotten down and dirty together, there’s less of a sense that you have to beat around the bush if you want to see them again. And if you had fun, but aren’t really looking for anything serious, you might have even just found a new f*ck buddy. It’s really a win-win.

5OK, well sometimes it’s a loss.

But that’s a good thing! Although people should just be more upfront about things after sleeping together, there are still people out in the world who will ghost or make you wait too long for a text response back and make you doubt yourself. Those people are the worst. But at least now you know they aren’t The One, and you didn’t waste too much of your precious time.

6It’s good for your health!

Having sex is good for you. Please feel no shame about having sex on a first date and satisfying your needs. As long as you’re safe about it, there’s absolutely no harm.

No matter how it works out in the long run, if it’s what you want to do (which, frankly, is the only part of this that ultimately matters), having sex with someone right away is a definitely a good idea.
