These rad ladies just got the Emmy nominations they totally deserve
The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations have just been announced, and it’s officially time for a collective fangirl freakout. Announced live by Uzo Aduba, the Emmy Award-winning actress behind Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on Orange is the New Black, and Cat Deeley, the host of So You Think You Can Dance, the stage was already set for all the incredible girl power to come — and it did not disappoint.
Amongst the nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series were Veep, Parks and Recreation, Transparent, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt — all of which received nominations in other categories, as well. Amy Poehler received a nod in Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her final season as Leslie Knope in Parks and Rec (no, you’re crying), and Amy Schumer received her first nod in the category for the breakout season of her show, Inside Amy Schumer. (The show was also nominated for multiple other awards, including Variety Sketch Series and Writing for a Variety Sketch Series.)
Both Elisabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks received nods for their final season of Mad Men — but we won’t hide our disappointment that January Jones didn’t get one, too. The incredible Viola Davis received a nom for How to Get Away with Murder (because duh). Tatiana Maslany finally received a nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for playing six different characters on Orphan Black (no big deal). And, because all is right in the world, Taraji P. Henson also received a nom for her role as Cookie Lyon on Empire.
Even our fave pop star Katy Perry got a nod for her Super Bowl Halftime performance. Another queen of music rounding out the Emmys list? The great Queen Latifah, who’s nominated for outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie for her work in Bessie.
Jill Soloway (Transparent) received multiple nominations this year, including both Directing for a Comedy Series and Writing for a Comedy Series — the only woman nominated for either category. And in case you were worried, both of our beloved hosts Aduba and Deeley were nominated this year, as well.
To the surprise of probably no one, Game of Thrones dominated the nominations with 24 nods, including Outstanding Drama Series — and based on what we know about next season, we’re going to assume it’s going to be that way for a while. American Horror Story: Freak Show came in at a close second with 19 nominations.
The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards air live on September 20th, and will be hosted by SNL veteran and Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg. You can check out a list of the major nominees right here.
